The Vikings Had A Pretty Good Draft

An interesting little entry from ESPN, as Todd McShay, one of their draft guys, decided that he'd wax prophetic about what the 2007 NFL Draft would look like if we knew then what we know now.

We'll start with the bad news, which should be pretty much obvious to anybody. In McShay's new draft, Adrian Peterson does NOT fall into the Vikings' laps at #7. Instead, he goes to Cleveland. . .where, quite frankly, he probably should have gone in the first place. . .at #3. So, instead of Adrian Peterson, the Vikings end up with WR Dwayne Bowe. Bowe would be a nice addition to Minnesota's roster, but back in April nobody thought he was worth the #7 overall pick. I know I didn't, anyway.

But in even more refreshing news, all of Minnesota's first four picks went in the two-round draft. Sidney Rice, Marcus McCauley, and Brian Robison were all off the board in the first 64 picks in McShay's new draft.

Rice went the earliest. . .and went in his original slot to Minnesota at #44, which would have given the Vikings both Dwayne Bowe AND Sidney Rice. As nice as it is having the best running back in the league, Bowe and Rice would have been a pretty sweet combo to have.

The next one off the board was DE Brian Robison, who McShay had going to the Cincinnati Bengals with the 49th overall pick. They originally took RB Kenny Irons at that spot. . .Kenny Irons has been on IR with a knee injury all season.

Last but not least, CB Marcus McCauley went with the 58th overall pick to the Detroit Lions. The Lions originally used that pick on DE Ikaika Alama-Francis, who I actually liked a lot leading up to the draft, but who hasn't done much to this point of the year.

Nice to see the incredible draft that Minnesota had in '07 being recognized once again.
