Bengals Draft Irons To Back Up Rudi
|
Auburn's Kenny Irons fell down the draft board due to his durability and the fact that many felt he couldn't be a lead back. Well, in Cincinnati, he won't have to be the lead back as he'll back up Rudi Johnson [who also played at Auburn]. Of course, the guy that used to back up Rudi ... Chris Perry ... has had his own problems staying healthy.
Kenny Irons is a disciplined runner who reads holes well and can explode through them. But he needs to put some bulk on him if he thinks he's going to be anything in the NFL. However, if he can stay on the field, he was a guy some projected to be a potential early first round pick before the 2006 season began. Right now, he should be a capable change of pace back that can give Rudi Johnson some rest and make him more effective.
